TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Current Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan criticized former Jakarta governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama or Ahok, stating that Ahok’s transition team (TGUPP) back then was funded by the private sector.
Anies explained that a team that works for the Jakarta Government should utilize the regional government’s allocated budget (APBD), such as the current transition team that is working under his leadership.

The former Ministry of Education reasoned that the current transition team chose to be funded by the state to avoid conflict of interests. “You can go and check the news. Under who’s payroll was the governor’s staff back then? You can go and compare it with the one we have now,” said Anies Baswedan on Tuesday, November 21.
Anies Baswedan further defended his maximum use of the regional budget by stating that it would guarantee its accountability. “It’s funny, the staffing is funded by the private sector but they exist in the governor’s office,” said Anies. “So who are they working for? The governor or the private sector?.”
Anies Baswedan asserted that being funded by the private sector is not the correct way towards budget saving. He said that it is prone to be misused and does not reflect good governance.
