TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) stated that they are not concerned to lose Muslim voters despite the fact that they support to pass Government Regulation in Lieu of Law (Perppu) on Mass Organizations into Law on Mass Organizations (UU Ormas). PDIP Secretary General Hasto Kristiyanto claimed that his party already has a large basis of Muslim voters.
"More than 85 percent of PDIP supporters are Muslims. Muslim, Islam that builds civilization, Islam that breeds figures of movements," Hasto said in Central Jakarta on Saturday (28/10).
PDIP faction in the House of Representatives (DPR) unconditionally accept to pass Perppu No. 2/2017 on Mass Organizations into a Law. Other factions passing the Law include NasDem Party, Hanura Party, and Golkar Party.
Hasto explained that their support is in line with the goal to uphold the Constitution and Pancasila from organizations intending to change the ideology and threat the nation’s sovereignty.
He added that such a decision has been consulted to numerous religious organizations including Nahdlatul Ulama (NU). "PDIPimplements the thoughts of Islamic figures of Haji Umar Said Tjokroaminoto, KH Ahmad Dahlan, and NU that maintains dialectic in the spirit of nationalism," he said.
