TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - At least seven Indonesians were killed in a bus accident yesterday morning in Malaysia, the Indonesian Consulate General (KJRI) in Penang reported.
Foreign Ministry official Lalu Muhammad Iqbal said that the incident involved a Sony employee shuttle and that of Plexus. Most of the passengers are Indonesians and Nepalese.
“As of this afternoon [yesterday], reports said that eight were killed, a Malaysian, seven Indonesians and 26 were injured,” Iqbal said in a written statement received by Antara news agency yesterday.
Having heard about the accident, the KJRI Penang promptly collected information on the victims who had been admitted to three nearby hospitals.
KJRI Penang official Neni Kurniati said that having identified the victims, the KJRI had contacted their families and relatives who live in Malaysia for visual identification.
Three out of seven Indonesian victims hailed from North Sumatra, two from Aceh, one from Central Java and one from East Java. It is unknown when the bodies will be buried as autopsies are yet to be conducted. Meanwhile, Indonesians who are injured are still being treated at local hospitals.
