Gov`t Demands Explanations over Gatot`s Denied Entry to US

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian government through Foreign Affairs Minister Retno Marsudi has taken several steps to demand an official explanation from the United States government on why Indonesian Armed Forces (TNI) General Gatot Nurmantyo and his wife were refused prevented from entering the US.
“Earlier in the morning I demanded an explanation from US Deputy Ambassador in Jakarta,” Retno said during a conference at the Presidential Palace on Monday, October 23.
The US Deputy Ambassador, according to Retno, was the only US Official available in Jakarta this morning. She also stated that the ministry will soon summon the US Ambassador to explain Gatot’s entry denial that she explained as a critical issue.
US Officials have apologized regarding the situation but provided a minimum explanation on why such incident took place. Retno views that the explanation from the US government is not enough yet since US authorities are still coordinating internally regarding the diplomatic mishap.
The US Government has corrected the administration error. Gatot was due to attend a high-level conference on countering violent extremism at the invitation of the US armed forces Commander-in-Chief, General Joseph Dunford.
