TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The government has officially disbanded Hizbut Tahrir Indonesia (HTI) today. The Justice and Human Rights Ministry Legal Administration Director General Freddy Harris said that the HTI’s legal entity status has been revoked based on the government regulation in lieu of law (Perppu) No. 2/2017.
“The government believes that the revocation of the decree for HTI legal entity [approval] was not done arbitrarily, but after a synergy between governmental agencies in the fields of politics, law and security,” he told a press conference in his office today.

The government has reiterated its commitment to upholding freedom of assembly and freedom of speech, Fredyy said. He said that mass organization must abide by the applicable law.
Despite naming Pancasila as an ideology in its articles of association, the HTI activities contravene the said ideology and national unity, Freddy said. “They broke their own articles of association.”
Freddy said that the HTI has officially been disbanded following the revocation of its decree for legal entity approval. He said that anyone having any objections to the decision may take legal action against the government in accordance with the laws and regulation.
