TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A House of Representative (DPR) member suggested anti-graft agency KPK improve their communication skills with other agencies.
Arsul Sani, who is also a member of Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) inquiry special committee, is disappointed at the anti-graft inappropriate letter about the case involving Miryam S.Haryani.
“They don’t use inter-agency communication standards. This must be put to an end,” he said on Monday, June 19.
He suggests that KPK and DPR should establish an informal communication and should not be only limited to sending letters. Both agencies have contrasting views on presenting Miryam.
According to Arsul, the public views that KPK refuses to let Miryam be present in the right of inquiry meeting. The letter written by KPK is also considered by him as a threat against the House of Representative.
“I personally think it’s disrespectful towards [another] state agency,” he said.
The attitude that was shown by KPK, he said, could potentially make DPR members mad and force them to use their budgeting rights to control the KPK. “We (DPR) could weaken the KPK actually, the easiest way isn’t by revising the law, but tightening their budget,” Arsul said.
KPK previously sent a letter to the DPR on Monday. The letter argued that presenting Miryam in the meeting could obstruct legal proceedings. The letter said: “Attempts to present Miryam S. Haryani could be directly or indirectly qualified as acts to prevent, hinder, or foil the investigative process, which is an obstruction of justice.”
A member of DPR from PDIP faction Junimart Girsang even went as far as claiming that KPK’s attitude could be considered as contempt of parliament and should be solved through legal proceedings.
