TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - House of Representatives (DPR) member Muhamad Syafii denies accusations stating that the special committee (Pansus) in the DPR is purposely slowing down or delaying the discussion about the revision of Law No. 15/2003 on the eradication of terrorism.
“The special committee is working continuously,” Syafii said Wednesday, May 31.
However, due to the developing problems, the discussion on the anti-terrorism law has become extensive.
Syafii explained that the committee has only started to effectively work twice a week since May 2016. He also revealed that the government requested an extended time to rearrange the law until 14 times. “Can this be considered as an attempt to slow things down?”
The Pansus has discussed 61 of the 112 list of inventory problems (DIM) received. “The rest is an editorial matter,” Syafii said.
Syafii revealed that they still cannot yet determine the definition of terrorism itself. The special committee wants to have an objective and proportional definition on who should be called a terrorist.
The committee does not want the definition of terrorist to be given limited to certain religions or groups.
