TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Police today will issue an order to force the Islamic Defenders Front (FPI) leader Rizieq Syihab appear for questioning over alleged pornographic chat scandal.
Jakarta Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Argo Yuwono said that investigators will find Rizieq after the order is issued. Argo said that he was told that Rizieq is currently in Malaysia but his exact whereabouts are still unknown.
Investigators served a second summons to Rizieq on Wednesday last week but the FPI leader had failed to show up, Argo said.
Police said that they had also served the first summons to Rizieq’s wife Syarifah Fadhlun Yahya, Firza Husein and Emma to appear as witnesses but they did not comply for various reasons.
Earlier, Jakarta Police received a report of pornographic chats allegedly involving Rizieq Syihab and Firza Husein.
Syihab’s lawyer Kiagus Choiri promises that his client will return to the country and police will not have to worry about his whereabouts.
He denied speculations that Rizieq had gone overseas to avoid being questioned over the case. According to him, the FPI leader had long planned to leave the country. “He is performing [Umrah] in the Holy Land [Mecca]…” he said.
Sugito Atmo Prawiro, also Rizieq Syihab’ lawyer, has questioned police plan to force his client to appear for questioning. “Stop overreacting; when Habib [Rizieq] returns to Indonesia, I believe he will be willing to be questioned and processed,” Sugito said on Saturday.
