TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Incumbent Jakarta Gubernatorial candidate Basuki Tjahaja Purnama or Ahok congratulated rival candidate pair Anies Baswedan and Sandiaga Uno for winning the second round of the election, based on quick count results.
“We hope that we can forget about issues that occurred during the campaign period and the regional head election in Jakarta. Since Jakarta is ours, let’s build it together,” Ahok said at Pullman Hotel in Central Jakarta on Wednesday, April 19, 2017.
Ahok expressed his gratitude to the National Police and the Indonesian Military for securing the election, as well as to election organizing committee.
Ahok asserted that he will continue his services until the new governor is inaugurated. In the remaining terms of office, Ahok promised that he will strive to finish all programs initiated by the Jakarta administration.
“We will work fast to finish our homework and deliver our promises. Certainly we won’t be able to finish them all. We hope Anies and Sandi can take them over,” Ahok said.
Ahok realizes that his defeat may cause disappointment among his supporters. However, Ahok called on Ahok-Djarot supporters to accept the results.
“God gives the power, and God takes it. No one can have it without His permission,” Ahok said.
Ahok recalled that he lost in the Bangka Belitung Gubernatorial Election back in 2007. However, Ahok believes that God has a plan for him.
“I told my supporters not to be sad. God always knows what’s best. Then, I was appointed as the Jakarta Governor. It’s not bad at all,” Ahok said.
