KAI Deploys Seven Additional Trains on Long Weekend Holiday

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - State railway company PT Kereta Api Indonesia`s (KAI) Operation Region (Daop) 1 Jakarta added seven train trips on Thursday and Friday, April 13 and 14, 2017, to accommodate passengers during the long weekend holiday.
KAI’s Daop 1 spokesperson Suprapto said that the number of passengers taking medium and long-distance train trips in Jakarta reached 33,000 on Thursday, April 13, 2017.
“We predict the number will be the same today,” Suprapto said at Senen Station in Jakarta on Friday, April 14, 2017.
On regular days, the number of passengers taking medium and long-distance trips is between 18,000 and 22,000 per day. The number could go as high as 31,000 per day on any given weekend.
Before the long weekend, KAI’s Daop 1 added six train trips to serve passengers heading to Bandung, Cirebon, Solo, and Surabaya. As the number of passengers increased on Thursday, KAI added another train trip from Pasar Senen Station to Purwosari.
KAI operates 28 regular trains from Gambir Station and 24 others from Pasar Senen Station. The total number of available seats is 29,310, consisting of 11,360 seats from Gambir and 17,950 from Pasar Senen.
Suprarpto revealed that the level of train occupancy leaving from Gambir on Thursday was 100 percent. Meanwhile, there are few seats remaining on trains leaving today.
Suprapto added that the data on available seats will change in seconds due to online ticketing. Customers can access the data through KAI Access app, kereta-api.co.id website, or other external channels.
