TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta Metro Police Chief Insp. Gen. M. Iriawan believed that the attack on Novel Baswedan was an organized crime. Iriawan also believed that there is a mastermind behind the attack that injured the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) investigator.
"When there's an executor, there was an order," Iriawan said in Jakarta Thursday, April 13, 2017.
Nevertheless, Iriawan did not want to speculate on who is behind the incident. He was also hesitant to conclude that the attack is related to the cases Novel is investigating.
"We don't know who did it yet, let alone from whom the order came from," Iriawan said.
Novel had hydrochloric acid (HCl) thrown at him early Tuesday morning, April 11, 2017. Novel had just finished a morning prayer at a mosque near his home in Kelapa Gading, North Jakarta.
The attack injured his face and left eye. Novel was treated at the Mitra Keluarga Kelapa Gading Hospital and the Jakarta Eye Center before taken to Singapore for further treatment.
