TEMPO.CO, Jakarta -Nasrullah Nasution, member of the advocacy team at the National Movement to Safeguard the Indonesian Ulema Council’s Edict (GNPF-MUI), said that as many as 100 lawyers will defend Muslim People Forum (FUI) secretary general Muhammad Al Khaththath, who was arrested on Friday, March 31, 2017, for an alleged treason.
“The arrest was unnecessary if the allegation was a treason because the rally [launched on Friday, March 31, 2017] is a peaceful rally,” Nasrullah said at the Kelapa Dua Mobile Brigade Command Headquarter in Depok, West Java, on Friday, March 31, 2017.

Nasrullah revealed that the GNPF-MUI was concerned with arrests made against activists whenever there was a plan to launch a rally. He added that the activists were charged with irrelevant laws.
Nasrullah argued that treason is a well-organized plan involving masses and forces.
“We didn’t do anything. It’s just a peaceful rally,” he added.
Nasrullah came to the Kelapa Dua Mobile Brigade Command Headquarter to provide legal assistance for Al Khaththath, who is currently undergoing a questioning. Nasrullah added that he was trying to clarify the activists who were arrested for an alleged treason related to the peaceful rally.
“Rumor says there are four activists [being arrested]. But Police said that it’s just Al Khaththath,” Nasrullah revealed. “We want to clarify the arrest and what is actually going on. Every time there’s an activity [Defend Islam Rally] police takes an action. We want to know the aim of the arrest so that the public will know,” he said.
