TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The protest staged by hundreds of students yesterday in front of Indonesian sixth president Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono’s (SBY) house at Jalan Mega Kuningan Timur VI, South Jakarta, was illegal. The protestors had failed to inform local police about it.

“There was no [notification]. That’s why we disband it,” South Jakarta Police spokesman Comr. Purwanta told Tempo on February 7, 2017.

According to Purwanta, the protest took place at 2:30 pm. Setiabudi Police disbanded the protesters after fifteen minutes due to permission issue.

Some 500 students joined the protest. “They came by 11 buses and 2 kopaja [medium sized buses],” Purwanta said.

Protesters brought banners bearing the words against social divisions, intolerance, and anti-Pancasila radical organizations, among others. Purwanta said that the protesters had earlier participated in a Student Jamboree held in Cibubur, Bogor.

Purwanta said that Jakarta Metro Police has taken over the case. Police will question the coordinator of the protest.
