Kualanamu Airport Security Officers Foil Attempted Meth Smuggling

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Officers at the Aviation Security (AVSEC) of Kualanamu International Airport in Deli Serdang, North Sumatra, has thwarted the attempted smuggling of methamphetamine on Sunday (14/7).
The suspects are two Lion Air JT 397 passengers with the initials Ku (33) Jakarta (33 years) and in Nov (30 years old).
The incident began when Public Relations Officer Kualanamu noticed them entering the Terminal Departure through the Security Check Point 1 at 05:30 pm.
Based on profiling when walking, the two men looked akward and there was a bulge in their crotches.
"The AVSEC officer conducted a physical examination in a special room and found methamphetamine with a total weight of 1.6 kilograms in them," Wisnu, one of AVSEC officials.
Before being handed over to the Narcotics Unit of the Deli Serdang police, they were questioned first by the AVSEC officers.
The math is planned to be brought to Jakarta and both of them got it from a resident in Medan.
"They claim to get methamphetamine s in the hotel at Jalan Juanda Medan," Wishnu said.
Until now, Vishnu added, they are still being questioned by the police to find out whether or not there act as couriers or there other motives.
Based on the identification cards, the two of them are residents in Banjarmasin and Kendari respectively.
After being interrogated at the airport terminal, the two men were handed over to the police.
"We leave it to the police and they are now still being questioned by the police," Wishnu said.
In the meantime, Kuswadi, Security Chief of the airport said that the men claimed the meth is not theirs.
"They claimed the drugs are not theirs," Kuswadi said.
Nov claimed he was paid Rp 12 million to bring the meth, while Ku claimed he received Rp 15 million to bring the meth.
