TEMPO.CO, Serang - The spread of dengue fever (DBD) in Banten Province has been increasingly concerning. Based on the data of Banten Province’s Health Department, in January, 25 of 785 dengue fever sufferers died.

According to the Head of Banten Health Department M. Yanuar, dengue fever cases predominantly occurred in Tangerang Dictrict with 270 cases and 13 died. Second highest is in Pandeglang District with 224 cases and five died. “On that basis, Tangerang District Administration has declared dengue fever as an extraordinary occurrence or KLB. Pandeglang could also be set with KLB status,” said Yanuar on Wednesday, February 3, 2016.

Whereas, in other areas, namely South Tangerang City, there are 100 cases with two died; Serang District has 50 cases with three died. Moreover, Serang City has 44 cases and one died; Cilegon City has 30 cases and two died. “Lebak District has 35 cases and Tangerang City with 32 cases. Thankfully, there had been no report on death tolls on dengue fever in those two areas,” he said.

Banten Health Department has been coordinating with all of the districts/cities to anticipate and lower the number of death tolls from dengue fever. Yanuar said that even his institution has sent circular letter on the readiness to face Extraordinary Occurrence of Dengue Fever (KLB DBD).

“The health department has sent its team to distribute logistics, such as insecticide, larvacide and other supporting equipment,” he said.

Head of Disease Management and Environmental Sanitation Division (P2PL) of Banten Health Department, Didin Aliyudin, said that overall Banten Health Department has allocated a budget of Rp1.650 billion to overcome communicable diseases, include dengue fever. “The budget is allocated for communicable diseases like HIV, Leprosy and dengue fever,” said Didin.

Based on the data of dengue fever cases for the period of January-December 2015, there had been 3,463 sufferers and 46 dead. “Compared to January period of the same year, it has risen. In January 2015, there were 333 cases with four dead, where in January 2016, there were 785 sufferers and 25 of them died,” he said.
