TEMPO.CO, Serang – Joko Widodo, the presidential candidate from the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P), has turned down an early call to reveal his cabinet formation.
He said composing his cabinet was not part of his present priorites despite multiple pollsters' already declaring him as the likely victor in the July 9 presidential race. “[The announcement of] the cabinet waits for July 22,” he said on Wednesday.
Jokowi said he and his election team were still focusing on monitoring the General Elections Commission (KPU)’s vote recap to avert possible ballot frauds. The KPU is slated to announce its official vote tally on July 22.
He added he had called on volunteers to keep an eye on the vote recap at every level and would probe any apparent fraud during the counting process. “We will investigate ( any fraud) even if it only involves one ballot.”
Earlier, Philips Jusario Vermonte, a researcher with the Centre for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), appealed to presidential candidates Joko Widodo and Prabowo Subianto to disclose their cabinets to tip off voters on the next government’s possible policies and allow them ample time to comment on the proposed names.
