KPU to Announce Ex Corruption Convicts Running for Legislation

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Upon heading to the 2019 General Election, the General Elections Commission (KPU) Commissioner Wahyu Setiawan announced that the agency was suggested by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) to announce 40 legislation hopefuls who were former convicts of corruption cases.
The meeting between KPK and the KPU took place on Wednesday. “We were there regarding the legislative candidates (DPR, DPRD, and DPD) who were former convicts,” Wahyu explained.
Following the meeting, KPU decided to hold a plenary meeting upon the matter; “It’s possible that we will eventually announce the identities of the 40 people in question,” he said.
This announcement follows the collaboration between the two agencies that resulted in a campaign upon educating potential voters regarding money politics and the origins of corruption entitled anti-money politics movement.
KPU maintains that such announcement is not a violation against any law or State Constitution (UU) but is fulfilling the rights of voters upon obtaining complete information regarding the legislative candidates who are running in the 2019 general elections.
