TEMPO.CO, Palu - National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), said that Palu earthquake refugees needed 18,000 tents for around 70,000 people. As for the school tents, 800 tents are needed in three regions.

“Not all refugees use large tents, but also family tents,” said BNPB Deputy for Prevention and Preparedness, Bernardus Wisnu Widjaja, at the Governor’s Office in Central Sulawesi, Palu, on Wednesday, October 17.

The assistance in the form of tents came from several non-governmental organizations, humanitarian agencies and related institutions. Currently, there are 5,000 tents and the Indonesian Red Cross has already prepared 1,300 tents.

“Apparently, the NGOs also have strength, it was said that there were additional tents,” he said after meeting with NGOs at the National Assistance Post (Pospenas) of the Central Sulawesi Governor’s Office.

UNICEF UN agency sent 200 tents to be used as temporary schools. A number of NGOs prepared the tents as public kitchens and partly as the shelter for the Palu earthquake victims.

“If it is still lacking, we (BNPB) will prepare the funds,” he said.
