TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Economist Cyrillus Harinowo Hadiwerdoyo argues that Gunung Kidul`s tourism can develop to be on par with other Indonesian known tourist spots such as Nusa Dua in Bali and South Lombok.
Harinowo explained that it can happen if the local government continues to develop its infrastructure that includes the electricity network and clean water sources. The Independent Commissioner of Bank Central Asia (BCA) expressed his prediction at the forum "Kafe BCA on the road" in Yogyakarta, Sunday, September 23.
He elaborated that Gunung Kidul’s main attraction is the Goa Pindul and its beach areas. He claims that the number of tourists can be further increased since Gunung Kidul currently tops Yogyakarta’s tourist destination spot in term of popularity.
As such what BCA has contributed at the region by training and forming a good management to promote and preserve the location into becoming a tourist destination.
Harinowo argues that village tourist destinations can be one of the government’s pedestals to drive the region’s economic growth and develop the country’s small and Medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
“In average, foreign exchange income from international tourists is $1,100. That goes into the country 100 percent, it goes into the SMEs,” said Harinowo.
