TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The rupiah exchange rate to the United States dollar (US) is expected not to reach Rp14,900 for today, even though the Asian currency declines against the dollar.
The rupiah exchange rate transacted between banks in Jakarta declined by five points to Rp14,875, from Rp14,870.
Sasmuel Aset Manajemen economist Lana Soelistianingsih said that this morning, the strong Asian currency such as the Hong Kong dollar and the declining Singapore dollar to the US dollar, were negative sentiments for the rupiah.
“But it is likely that Bank Indonesia will keep the rupiah from reaching above Rp14,900 per US dollar,” she said.
She estimates that rupiah will move in the range between Rp14,870 to Rp14,890.
CSA Research Institute Senior Analyst Reza Priyambada stated that the declining of the rupiah was also influenced by the actions of money market players.
“Market players are waiting for the results of the Fed’s Open Market Committee (FOMC) meeting this week, in the midst of a situation that makes the US dollar tend to be in demand as a safe haven,” he said.
He said the lack of positive sentiment in the country made the rupiah decline to the US dollar.
