TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Golkar Party has returned Rp700 million of alleged bribe money pertaining to the PLTU Riau-1 steam power plant to the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK).

“Yes, a Golkar member hands out the money related to PLTU Riau-1 graft case,” said KPK spokesperson Febri Diansyah at his office, Friday, September 7.

Febri, however, balked at identifiying the politician and commenting as to whether the money was used to finance the party's national extraordinary congress (Munaslub) in December 2017.

whether it was aimed to accommodate the extraordinary congress (Munaslub) of Golkar back in December 2017. According to Febri, KPK investigators will look deeper into this case.

The anti-graft body, he added, was appreciative of the Golkar politician's returning the money. "The KPK appreciates this action, for sure," he said.

The KPK has named three suspects in the PLTU Riau-1 bribery case, viz. former social affairs minister Idrus Marham, ex-House’s (DPR) Energy Commission speaker Eni Saragih, and businessman Johannes B. Kotjo. Eni allegedly received bribe money worth Rp4.8 billion from Johannes to expedite the signing of the project's contract.

Eni has repeatedly spoken of alleged channeling of bribe money to the party's Munaslub in 2017. Eni, who was the treasurer of the Munaslub, however, declined to detail the use of the money, but said the money came from Kotjo. Golkar chair Airlangga Hartarto has dismissed the allegations.
