TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia`s Meteorology, Climatology, and Geology Agency (BMKG) said the magnitude-5.5 earthquake hit Sumbawa, West Nusa Tenggara, Tuesday, August 7 at 01:20 local times, said BMKG spokesperson Hary Djamitko.

The epicenter was in 8.18 degrees south latitude and 116.29 degrees east longitude at a depth of 10 kilometers.

The quake occurred at 21 kilometers northeast of North Lombok sea, 47 kilometers northwest of East Lombok, 48 kilometers northeast of Mataram, and 55 kilometers northeast of West Lombok.

Earlier on Sunday, August 5, the magnitude-7 earthquake jolted several regions in West Nusa Tenggara and Bali at 18:46 local times. BMKG considered the strong tremor as the main shock from the previous multiple quakes following the magnitude-6.4 earthquake struck Lombok on Sunday, July 29.

The National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) updated the death toll from the earthquake amounted to 98 people, while 236 people injured, and thousands of houses were wrecked.

Hary Djamitko went on to say that BMKG recorded as many as 230 aftershocks occurred in Lombok, NTB, as of August 7, at 07:00 local times.
