TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) senior investigator Novel Baswedan revealed that for a whole year, police never informed him upon the development of the investigation on his acid attack.

“So I am a little unsure to answer questions that come to me regarding the development of my case,” said Novel Baswedan after attending a public discussion in Central Jakarta on Tuesday, July 17.

Novel Baswedan was attacked by two unknown men on a motorcycle on early morning of April 11 when Novel was on his walk back home from a nearby Mosque. The two men threw liquid acid on Novel’s face which has caused temporary blindness up to this day.

Furthermore, Novel reminded the Indonesian Government that KPK officials should be provided with protection. “One of the best forms of protection for KPK members is by revealing the attackers if a member are attacked,” Novel said.

Novel Baswedan openly voiced his worries upon the possibility of several groups that has pressured the president or government to not dare investigate the case. He hoped that President Jokowi can utilize the time left of his presidency to realize his promise on helping solve the case.

However, Novel Baswedan said that he has come to the point of forgiving his attackers and whole-heartedly accept the things he has experienced. “As the younger generations would say; I want to move on,” said the KPK investigator.
