TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The riot at The Mobil Brigade's Commande Headquarters or Mako Brimob in Kelapa Dua, Depok, was allegedly triggered by food. The police said that the riot broke last night at around 19:30 local time.

In a written statement released today, Police spokesman Comr. Argo Yuwono said the riot began when a prisoner asked about the food that his family sent him.

One of the guards said that another officer had the food package, which angered the prisoner.

"He then egged on other inmates from Block C and B to engage in a riot," Argo said.

Prisoners then started breaking cells' doors and walls. Argo said situations were out of control, with some inmates breaking into the investigation room.

Some prisoners even attacked investigators who were writing down reports.

"The case is being handled by the Depok Metro Police," he said.

Until the time of this report, there has been no further statement from the police's spokesmen regarding the Mako Brimob riot, including head of the Information Bureau Brig. Gen. Pol. Mohammad Iqbal or the PR chief Ins. Gen. Setyo Wasisto.
