Oil - Gas Task Force Offers Petronas Investment in Petrochemistry

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Upstream Oil and Gas Regulatory Special Task Force (SKK Migas) deputy chairman Sukandar offered investment in petrochemistry during his work visit to integrated oil and gas facility belonging to Petronas in Kertih, Pahang, Malaysia.
“We welcome Petronas to join (investment in petrochemistry),” he said. He explains Indonesia is developing gas up to 1,100 million standard cubic feet per day (mmfcd) which is converted into Liquefied Natural gas or petrochemical product, especially in East Kalimantan.
Indonesia urgently needs an integrated large petrochemical industry just as that of Petronas in Kertih that is able to produce a wide range of chemicals including ammonia, ethylene, glycol, polyethylene and propylene.
Furthermore, he continued, Indonesia spends more than US$5 million annually to import petrochemicals. The chemicals are the main materials and additional materials in manufacture industry ranging from plastic, textile to cosmetics.
