TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta could replace Bali as the host city of 2018 International Monetary Fund (IMF) – World Bank Annual Meeting following increasing seismic activity of Mount Agung in Bali, said the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs Luhut Pandjaitan.
The IMF-World Bank Annual Meetings are slated to be held in Bali in October 2018. Some 15,000 participants from 189 countries will attend the event.
However, Minister Luhut will monitor the safety situation in Bali in the next couple of weeks. A meeting has been scheduled with Finance Minister Sri Mulyani and Bank Indonesia Governor Agus Martowardojo to discuss the issue. The Minister said that no decision has been made yet.
The Vulcanology and Geological Disaster Mitigation Center (PVMBG) has yet to advise possible eruption of the highest mountain in Bali and whether the impact would affect flights. “We will see when Mount Agung will erupt… and how big the impact will be,” Luhut said.
He said that he will visit Washington DC, U.S., on October 11-13 to discuss preparations for the IMF – World Bank Annual Meetings.
