The police said that sidewalks are built for pedestrians in accordance with Law No. 22/2009 on Traffic and Road Transport. The regulation says that pedestrians reserve the right to use sidewalks, bridges and other facilities.
They also have the right to safety when crossing the road. “The safety of pedestrians and motorcyclists should be prioritized. Riders who ignore safety may face two years imprisonment and Rp500,000 fines,” Budiyanto said.
According to Budiyanto, raids on motorcyclists who use the sidewalks will be carried out regularly. He has called on Jakartans to realize and understand the functions of sidewalks.
