TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - I Wayan Sudiarta, lawyer of inactive Jakarta Governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama or Ahok, handed over an appeal brief for his client today, May 16, at the Mobile Brigade Command detention center in Depok, West Java.
“We have a total of 22 points to be presented for the appeal, excluding the others that will come in this evening,” Wayan said.

Wayan revealed irregularities related to the judge ruling to detain Ahok. “Ahok’s detainment is mentioned on page 615-616. However, the reason for the detainment is not mentioned,” Wayan explained.
He also questioned Ahok’s detainment immediately after the verdict reading.
Another lawyer, Sirra Prayuna said that he has scheduled to visit Ahok since his client was detained at the Mobile Brigade detention center. “We came to work on the appeal brief,” Sirra said.
According to Sirra, the appeal brief will serve as the basis to counter the judge’s verdict. He said that there are several important points that can be used to defend Ahok.
Sirra explained that the appeal brief was drafted to assess considerations presented in the trial. “The first one is to assess whether the considerations are comprehensive or not.”
The second point, Sirra went on, is that his legal team wants to see the implementations of the law used to charge Ahok. “Therefore, we want to ensure that we don’t make mistakes in preparing the appeal brief,” the lawyer said.
