TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Finance Minister Sri Mulyani brings good news following the meeting of the boards of governors of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in Washington DC, the United States, on Saturday, April 22, 2017.
“At the meeting, we discussed the latest global economic [issues], the good news is that global economic growth in 2017 and 2018 is expected to be better than the previous year,” Sri said on his Instagram account @smindrawati on Tuesday, April 25, 2017.
Sri Mulyani revealed the agenda items discussed in the meeting, at which she was named Development Committee Chair with the International Monetary and Financial Committee (IMFC), who also serves as the advisor for IMF Board of Governors. Aside from the good news, however, there are also bigger economic challenges ahead.
The challenges include a wave of protectionism, geopolitical condition, and uncertainties in the policies of developed countries. The minister pointed to the general elections in major European countries.
Therefore, Sri Mulyani said, the meeting discussed the measures taken to tackle the issues. “Through cooperation with coordinated international policies, for healthier and better global economy and the economies of member countries.”
Minister Sri went on to reveal the agenda items in the World Bank and IMF Spring Meetings 2017, which include the commitment to achieve Sustainable Development Goals, eradicate poverty and promote global equality.
The meeting also discussed reforms to achieve the goals. “Particularly the roles of world bank to help conflict-ridden countries and those having refugee problems,” Sri Mulyani said.
