TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) had applied for a travel ban on Emirsyah Satar, former president director of flag carrier Garuda Indonesia, who has been named suspect in alleged bribery for aircraft engine procurement.

“We had applied for a travel ban to the Directorate General of Immigration before we named [Emirsyah] as a suspect,” the KPK deputy chief Laode M Syarif said today at the KPK building in Jakarta.

Agung Sampurno, head of public relations division, the Justice and Human Rights Ministry, explained that the travel ban has been effective since January 16, 2017.

“We had received an application letter dated January 16, 2017, which will apply for the next six months,” Agung told the news agency Antara.

Agung, however, could not confirm whether Emirsyah was still in Indonesia or already abroad.

According to Laode, the KPK had questioned Emirsyah several times before naming him a suspect.

On whether the KPK will interrogate Rolls-Royce’s representatives, Laode said that the KPK had no authority to do so.

Emirsyah allegedly received 1.2 million euro and 180,000 US dollar bribes, or equal to Rp20 billion, as well as gifts from British engineering giant Rolls-Royce worth 2 million US dollars spread across Singapore and Indonesia for Garuda Indonesia’s purchase of 50 engine from the Airbus SAS between 2005 and 2014.
