TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo revealed that his meeting with former President Megawati Soekarnoputri on November 21, 2016, was related to the country’s political situation. According to Jokowi, as a former president herself, Megawati can provide suggestions in handling currently developing situations.
"Visiting each other is a good tradition. The communications established earlier this afternoon was very effective in finding a number of solutions for the nation's problem," Jokowi said on Monday, November 21, 2016.
One of the discussions, according to Jokowi, was related to regional elections, which also includes the upcoming Jakarta Gubernatorial Elections. Jokowi and Megawati both agreed that the elections should not resulted in unhealthy rivalry between candidates.
Jokowi said that the competition between candidates running in regional elections must be able to show respect for each other. "Remember, winning or losing in an election is normal," Jokowi said.
Jokowi and Megawati also discussed about possibilities in gathering a number of political party leaders to guarantee political stability towards Election Day. "We'll arrange that later," the President stated.
