TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - PT Pos Indonesia will work on e-commerce business. In order to be more competitive, the state-owned enterprise is currently designing online marketplace website specifically designated for mikro, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). “We will also establish online marketplace, but for SMEs only. We will not serve electronics and cell phones business,” said Gilarsi Wahyu Setijono, President Director of PT Pos Indonesia, to journalists at the office of Cooperatives and SMEs Service East Java, Thursday, March 10, 2016.
Gilarsi explained that, the new business line of e-commerce website will be synergyzed with other programs for SMEs. It is aimed to develop Indonesian SMEs and expand its market.
He said that PT Pos Indonesia will bring huge investment for the online marketplace. Gilarsi said SME business owners will set the prices of the products they sell according to market mechanism. As in other online marketplaces, delivery cost will charged to buyers. “The website will be completed in one month,” he said.
The online business is expected to run in accordance with display corner program for SMEs in the post office. To initiate the program, PT Pos Indonesia has selected 30 SME business owners from two districts, Sidoarjo and Gresik, which has passed quality standard selection. “With the display corner, we will make room for SMEs. The delivery cost will be competitive,” he said.
In East Java, 600 post offices - Indonesia’s total is 4,500 - could be altered into display rooms for SMEs. “They [SMEs] could use it, but we are still discussing it,” Gilarsi said.
East Java Province is considered to be the largest base of SME business owners, roughly 6.8 million. East Java has been chosen for the program launch since it deemed to have more agressive business activities, according to Gilarsi. After East Java, the display corner program will also be launched in Central Java and West Java.
