TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - One of Chinese larget electronic company Skyworth Group, plans to acquire PT Toshiba Consumer Products Indonesia (TCPI). "TCPI is in the process of being acquired by Skyworth," said Heru Widianto, Chief of the Industrial Disputes Prevention Sub-Directorate at the Ministry of Manpower on Thursday, February 11, 2016.
Heru said that the acquisition process, which begun in 2012, will be completed this year. Skyworth itself has already established a subsidiary in Indonesia, PT Skyworth Indonesia, since 2011.
Heru said that the acquisition process, which value is estimated to be around JPY 3 million (Rp 341.02 billion), has been said to be the main cause of rife layoff rumors surrounding Toshiba.
Heru however, did not deny that TCPI will be forced to take steps to improve the company's efficiency following the acquisition. Heru said that Toshiba may have to reduce 30 percent of its workforce. "Toshiba has 906 workers. Some 300 people will be [laid off]," Heru said.
