TEMPO.CO, Jakarta-Komodo Airport in Labuan Bajo in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) will be upgraded to international airport. “The plan to upgrade the airport is to properly manage tourists, both domestic and international, who visit the region to see the giant lizard,” said NTT Transportation Agency chief Ricard Djami on Friday, October 23.
According to Ricard, the improvement also aims to conduct flight activities day and night. Komodo Airport’s activities in the last few years have increased significantly, following komodo dragon being declared as one of the seven wonders of the world. “Komodo Airport’s status becoming international airport is being discussed,” he said.
Some of the improvements are terminal facilities, Customs office, immigration office and health services. Runway lights must also be renewed to fulfill international airport standards.
Ricard said lights in the runway are important because the airport will also operate at night. “The process to upgrade the airport will finish in 2015.”
