Lapindo Victims to Receive Compensation on June 26: Minister

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Public Works and Public Housing Minister Basuki Hadimuljono has guaranteed that compensation payments for Lapindo mud victims will still be made on June 26, 2015. The minister said the payments would be made after President Joko Widodo signed a Presidential Regulation on the matter.
“Who said it was going to be delayed? We’re only waiting for the Presidential Regulation to be signed,” he said at the parliamentary complex in Jakarta on Wednesday, June 24, 2015.
Basuki said the regulation should have been signed on Tuesday night, June 23, 2015, but there had been revisions to it when the president scrutinized the details of the compensation that should be paid by PT Minarak Lapindo Jaya to the mudflow victims.
“There are some revisions from the president regarding the sanctions on Minarak,” Basuki said.
According to the minister, the revisions encompassed sanctions on Minarak if the latter failed to pay off its debt on time, or worse, was unable to settle its debt.
“Perhaps the Presidential Regulation will be signed tonight,” Basuki said.
Basuki explained the amount of the compensation reached Rp827 billion—as stipulated in the 2015 Revised State Budget.
