TEMPO.CO, Indramayu – The Indramayu Administration is helping the local tap water company (PDAM) connect clean water to some 3,000 low-income residents in the area. Indramayu Regent Anna Sophanah said the funds prepared for the program reached Rp8 billion.
“We gave it to PDAM in the form of participation funds,” Anna said on Wednesday, June 17, 2015. With the fund aid, low income households will only have to pay Rp220,000 from the normal Rp825,000.
Anna said she was hopeful that this program would help low-income households enjoy clean water, and that the PDAM could improve its water quality as it saw increased number of customers.
Anna also called on residents to save water, particularly ahead of the dry season, despite their heavy reliance on clean water from PDAM.
PDAM Tirta Darma Ayu Indramayu District CEO Tatang Sutardi said the program was a continuation of a similar program in the past.
In 2013 and 2014, PDAM managed to install new pipe connections to 2,000 customers. Combined with the program this year, the number of customers enjoying clean water from the program reached 5,000 people.
Anna said the target was to provide clean water to another 3,000 households by the end of October.
“We are still verifying customer’s data,” Tatang said, adding that more residents under his company’s areas in Bangodua, Anjatan, Sindang and Kandanghaur would later enjoy clean water as well in the future.
