TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Puan Maharani, Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture hoped that the 2015 Sail Tomini event will have a long-term effect on improving regional economy and public welfare.
"Sail Tomini should not be a mere ceremony, conducted and then forgotten," Puan said during the official opening of the 2015 Sail Tomini and Boalemo Festival las Tuesday, May 5, 2015.
Puan said that regional government involved in the event should the long-term effect of the international maritime event towards local economy and residents after the event has been finished.
"Usually, before a Sail event, heads of states are rushing to improve infrastructures. I think it is not enough, what important is the benefits for the people after the event ends," Puan added.
Puan also hoped that the Sail Tomini and Boalemo Festival would attract more foreign and domestic tourists to the region.
The launching of the Sail Tomini and Boalemo Festival event was marked with the simultaneous play of the 'Gimba', a traditional musical instrument from Sulawesi by nine ministers from the working cabinet, two governors, and two regents.
The main event of the Sail Tomini and Boalemo Festival is scheduled to take place on September 19, 2015, and September 10, 2015, respectively. The event will be attended by President Joko Widodo.
Several activities that will be included in the event are the celebration of Indonesia’s 70th Independence Day, sailboat rally, and sailing the Nusantara V territorial waters.
