TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Head of the Data and Information Center of the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) Sutopo Purwo Nugroho reported that a flash flood hit four villages in Sumbawa regency, West Nusa Tenggara province on Friday at 9pm local time, leading 1,637 families to be displaced.
“The flash flood was triggered by heavy rains in the past three days,” Sutopo said in a written statement.
Labuan Jambu village and Batu Lanteh village were the hardest hit as 500 families from the two villages were displaced. Meanwhile, 150 families from Labyan Pidang village and 387 families from Banda village were also displaced.
Sutopo also said that to date, the West Nusa Tenggara BNPB has continued to collect data about material losses due to the flood. Temporary data, however, shows that at least 12 houses were damaged and three primary schools buildings were inundated.
The flood has also damaged a dyke at Labuan Jambu river, leaving a 40-meter leak. The flood has also inundated hundreds of hectares of paddy fields.
Sutopo further said that electricity was still cut of as one power pole collapsed.
He also said that Sumbawa disaster mitigation agency (BPBD) has been on the disaster site and is taking evacuation measures and distributing aids. A quick-response team has also been deployed to clean the streets that have been damaged by the floods and strewn by logs, Sutopo added.
