TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Commission Eradication Commission (KPK) has urged President Joko Widodo to issue a government regulation in lieu of law (Perppu) about legal impunity in order to protect KPK from criminalization directed to its officials and to smooth the process of corruption eradication in the country.
KPK commissioner Adnan Pandu Praja said that he had already discussed the issue and hoped that legal impunity would be given to all KPK officials.
"We’ve already discussed the issue but I don’t know yet when the letter will be given to the President,” Adnan said in Jakarta, Sunday, January 25, 2015.
According to Adnan, legal impunity does not mean permanent legal impunity. Rather, he said, it only applies when somebody is appointed as chief or member of KPK and will end once their term is finished.
Adnan said that KPK strives to free the country for corruption and it also worked based on the mandate given to fight against corruption.
"Give us time to finish the mandate,” he said.
In the meantime, former Deputy Minister of Justice and Human Rights Denny Indrayana also asked President Jokowi to immediately issue a perppu on legal impunity for KPK.
