TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Basuki "Ahok" Tjahaja Purnama said that the Lebak Bulus Stadium would be demolished in the very near future as the Sports and Youth Affairs Ministry had finally issued the necessary recommendations that will allow the Administration to proceed with the demolition works.
"Now that the recommendation has been issued, we are entering the tendering process for the demolition of Lebak Bulus Stadium," said Ahok after a visit by Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Imam Nachrowi at the City Hall in Central Jakarta on Monday.
Ahok said he hoped that the demolition could begin as soon as possible, so it would not interfere with the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) construction works in the area.
"We are also trying to find solutions for issues surrounding the construction of Bersih, Manusiawi and Wibawa (BMW) Park and Stadium, which will replace the old stadium at Lebak Bulus," said Ahok.
Sports and Youth Minister Imam Nachrowi confirmed that his ministry had issued the necessary recommendation that would allow the Jakarta administration to demolish the old Lebak Bulus Stadium and build a MRT depot in its place. "I've signed and issued the recommendation. We don't want to be blamed for obstructing the progress of development projects in the capital," said Imam.
Nachrowi said that his ministry wanted the Jakarta administration to build a replacement arena that would serve as Jakarta's go-to venue for sporting occasions. "Once the old stadium is demolished, Jakarta needs to build a replacement venue. We will leave that decision to the administration to figure out," he said.
Previously on October 10, 2014, a Gubernatorial Decree was signed that set out the administration's plan to build a replacement venue on Jl. RE Martadinata in Sunter Permai, North Jakarta.
