TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Secretary General of the Indonesian Teacher Union Federation (FSGI) Retno Listyarti urged the Minister of Primary and Secondary Education Anies Baswedan to completely discontinue the 2013 curriculum following the decision of the minister to stop the implementation of curriculum in several schools only.
"It means that there are around 6,200 schools that continue implementing the 2013 curriculum,” Rento told Tempo on Sunday, December 7, 2014.
According to Retno, implementing the curriculum while at the same time revising it is a difficult thing to do and both the teachers and the students would the victims.
Retno went on to say that the decision to urge to the government to discontinue the curriculum is not because the schools are not ready but because the concept, the syllabus and the textsbooks are synchronized; thus, she said, the curriculum has to be totally revised.
"It’s better for the curriculum to be totally revised for a whole year before being tried out. It’s not good to do it partially like this,” she said.
Retno also saw irregularities in the implementation of the 2013 curriculum, one of them being the procurement of textbooks.
“We have to fix this issue (book procurement) first,” he said, adding that Minister of Primary and Secondary Education has to address the irregularities.
