TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Tambora Volcano in Sumbawa Island, West Nusa Tenggara will have its second century eruption anniversary on April 10, 2015. A commemoration is set to mark the anniversary and to attract tourists to come visit the volcano.
“There will be science and creative activities,” said NTB Governor Zainul Majdi to Tempo on Thursday.
One of other things that will be held is the distinct art of indigenous tribes such as Sasak from Lombok Island, Mbojo from Bima, and Samawa from Sumbawa. Tourists are also offered the hiking track through theree routes.
“Total round trip time is reduced to 14 hours,” Zainul said adding that tourists can stay at local residents’ guest houses.
Tambora erupted in April 1815 and it was known as the biggest eruption in the past 10,000 years at the time. It spewed away magma up to 50 kilometer cubic, affect global climate and has killed around 100,000 people.
