TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – The chairman of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P), Megawati Soekarnoputri, received a Lifetime Achievement Award in the field of bureaucracy from Tahir Foundation on Tuesday, October 14, 2014.
The foundation, owned by tycoon Dato Sri Tahir’s Mayapada Group, bestows the award upon individuals who have displayed remarkable achievement and unshakable devotion in the bureaucracy sector for 30 years.
Besides the award, Megawati also received Rp1 billion in cash, which was directly given by Tahir.
In her speech, Megawati said she dedicated the award to all women in the country, adding that her achievement was a form of women’s struggle in Indonesia’s political arena.
“Many women have fought since before Indonesia got its freedom. However, it seems that women today are marginalized,” he said at Shangri-La hotel.
Other notables receiving the award were Theodore Permadi in the social field and Boenjamin Setiawan in the business leadership field. The panel of jury comprised Tahir himself, Hidayat Nur Wahid, Da’i Bachtiar, Komaruddin Hidayat, Jusuf Wanandi, Todung Mulya Lubis and Primus Dorimulu. The event was the second this year.
