TEMPO.CO, Jakarta -The ruling Democrat Party might not provide legal support for Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Jero Wacik, who has been named as suspect by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) recently.
“We might not provide legal support if Jero does not ask,” said the Democrat's Supreme Assembly member Ahmad Mubarok.
Ahmad said Jero was dismissed from the party upon his naming as a suspect, adding that Jero's post was prone to graft.
"It has been like that since the era of [former president] Soeharto," he said.
Earlier, KPK deputy chief Bambang Widjojanto said the anti-graft body alleged Jero had abused his power Energy and Mineral Resources Minister that inflicted losses financial losses worth Rp9.9 billion on the state.
Jero was suspected of marking up the ministry's operational costs, including earmarking funds for fictitious meetings.
