TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The commander of the Indonesian Armed Forces (TNI) Gen. Moeldoko said that TNI was ready to secure the forthcoming inauguration of Indonesia’s president and vice President on October 20, 2014.
“The arrangement is flexible, in accordance with their [president-elect Joko Widodo and his running partner, Jusuf Kalla] wishes,” Moeldoko told the press at TNI’s Headquarters in Cilangkap, East Jakart on Tuesday.
According to Moeldoko, the most important matter at the moment is to ensure the safety of the presidential pair. Moeldoko has requested the future presidential security detail personnel to keep an open mind and remain flexible when following the activities of Jokowi-JK.
President-elect Jokowi is known for his impromptu visits—often showing up with only a moments’ notice with minimal security.
Gen. Moeldoko declined to speak about the detail of the security strategy that will be employed during the inauguration, including the amount of TNI personnel that will be deployed for the purpose.
However, he told the press that "level-1 security alert" status might not even be declared during the inauguration, depending on the situation on the ground during the event.
“Even if TNI decides to declare a ‘level-1 security alert’ status for the inauguration, the public does not need to be concerned. Basically, TNI will thoroughly secure the process,” said Moeldoko.
