TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - More than 200,000 people have signed the petition to urge the Argentine president C.F. de Kirchner to move Arturo, a depressed polar bear to a better place. Arturo has been dubbed as the most depressed animal in the world. He lives alone in a 38-Celsius concrete cage in Mendoza Zoo, Argentina.
A number of photos of the bear have gone viral on the internet and triggered concerns from hundreds of people demanding to relocate the animal to a zoo in Winnipeg, Canada. A video taken by a visitor in Mendoza Zoo shows Arturo doing the same thing over and over again, a behavior that indicates he was slowly going insane.
Mendoza Zoo Director previously said it was unsafe to bring the bear abroad due to his age. Arturo is currently 29 years old. However, the statement does not stop the support from many sides to move the bear.
"If you love animals the way I do, you're going to want to sign the petition to save the [Argentine] polar bear, Arturo," former Republican Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich wrote on Facebook, Wednesday, as quoted by BBC.
"His current living situation is very sad, and he deserves to be saved."
