TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta provincial government is seeking to buy lands rife with student brawls in Jakarta to be turned into parks and sports facilities.
Ratiyono, chief of the Jakarta Youth and Sports Agency, said the government would buy the lands in accordance to tax object sale value. "We inquire people to sell their lands, especially the ones located in densely populated areas," he said yesterday.
The lands the government is looking are the ones with alleys as entrance to prevent cars from using parks and sport areas as parking lots.
Jakarta Deputy Governor Basuki 'Ahok' Tjahaja Purnama has previously ordered the Parks Agency and the Youth and Sports Agency to buy lands and transform them into parks and sports areas to overcome social insecurity, especially in 10 districts in Jakarta.
"We are trying to surmount social insecurities in slums. We ask the Parks Agency as well as the Youth and Sports Agency to buy lands to make fields for badminton or volleyball or basketball," Ahok said.
The government will work with private energy food companies such as Nestle, Mayora and ABC to take care of the parks and sports areas. "We are certain that children will be able to channel their energy through sports," said the deputy governor.
