TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Social network LinkedIn, with over 200 million members across the globe, received a major phishing attack on March. Millions of email was sent, themed with St Patrick's Day, offering premium account for free. The email entailed a link that directs users to another account, which later saves users' ID and password.
Kaspersky Lab reported that despite the increasing number of phishing attack against online shop, it still targets social network with 23.5 percent of the total attack. Other targets are email services and instant messengers, as well search engines.
Email attachment that spread on March listed Trojan-Spy.HTML.Fraud.gen, Aspxor network worm, e-mail-Worm.Win32.Bagle.gt, Zbot Trojan, The Bublik family of Trojan downloaders, and The Andromeda family of backdoors.
Maria Vergelis, Spam Analyst from Kaspersky Lab, mentioned that phishing attack is likely to work as it often informs important news, such as the ones that relate to tax and financial report. She added that cyber criminal are highly intelligent, therefore unknown message must be treated skeptically.
