TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A film entitled 'Television' directed by a young Bangladeshi movie director, Mostafa Sarfar Farooki, won the Jogja NETPAC (Network for the Promotion of Asian Cinema) Asian Film Festival (JAFF) 2013 on Saturday, December 7, in Yogyakarta.
The grand jury values the 106-minute long movie for sending a strong message about fundamentalism. The movie director had wrapped the movie with humors. “The film invites us to laugh at many things, including at ourselves,” said J.B. Kristanto a member of the grand jury at Yogyakarta Cultural Park. Besides Kristanto, the grand jury is consisted of U-Wei Bin Haji Saari from Malaysia, and Korean indie movie distributor, Stanley Kwak.
'Television' won JAFF Golden Hanoman Award for Asian Feature program. However, the film still receives some criticisms about inconsistencies of the starring artists. "It is a technical flaw, the most important is that the message can reach people," Kristanto said.
The eighth JAFF was held from November 29 to December 7 in Yogyakarta. The festival presented 80 short and long movies from 16 countries.
