TEMPO.CO, Surabaya - Two dead whale sharks were discovered washed ashore on Kenjeran Baru Beach, Surabaya, East Java on Tuesday. This is considered a rare incident.
The length of the enormous fish species was eight meters, larger than the previous shark that washed up. This may be the biggest whale shark discovered on the beach so far, said Syafi’i, a resident who saw the carcasses of the sharks.
Up until Tuesday afternoon, the two dead sharks were left lying on the beach and became a sight for residents. Children even played around the carcasses of the giant fish species.
Syafi’i said this is not the first time these whale shark were discovered washed up on the beach of Kenjeran. They usually head for shallow waters between October and November.
